He started as a singing drummer covering Heart, Kiss, UFO, Sabbath, Aerosmith and Rush along with all those great 80s hair bands. Southern Oregon bands included Apogee, Black Dove, The Big Bang, Futura and High Strung. Moving to Portland in 1990 he formed S.U.B. playing the local clubs of downtown. Migrating to Seattle he joined the grunge band scene with The Statics, Holier than Thou and the Thrill Junkies and was able to perform at the Peace Festivals at Gas Works Park, KISW Pain the Grass Concerts, many casinos and opened for major acts including The Tubes, Ronnie Montrose and Candlebox. Being a drummer/singer of all genres Swift played with many Las Vegas Impersonators around Oregon, Washington, California, Hawaii and several east coast venues. Known as “THE” drummer for hire many touring acts have called on him when in the Northwest and he is known as the “human juke box”.
In 1996 Swift moved back to Portland playing with groups like Wild Nights, Saving Mary, The Billionaire Bachelors, Second Hand Buzz, The Rust, After Hrs Band, The Dennis Mitchell Band and with the Kathryn Grimm Hippie Love Slave Trio. Feeling comfortable behind the kit or in front of the mic The Rust allowed Swift to step out and share the lead vocal and drummer throne. The Rust recorded one CD which was released to great revues and sold around the world through the internet. Swift joined the Yes Tribute Band All Good People and provided the Jon Anderson style vocals which lead to other gigs as a “front man.” Swift has been found hosting jam sessions all around Portland and Vancouver for rock and roll clubs sharing the stage with the Northwest best players. Crenshaw and Swift have been friends with bands playing the local circuits for many years. After a “fill in” show for Flashback the band agreed Swift was the voice needed to bring the 80s rock to the Northwest stages. The variety of music and challenging vocals is no problem for this seasoned professional and adds to the top-notch players in Flashback!!
