Alan Munde and Adam Granger, two veterans of the Americana-acoustic music scene, will appear at the Old Stone on August 19, 2017.  Between them, they have almost a century of professional experience, and have played with many of the greats of American music, including Jimmy Martin, Clarence and Roland White, Byron Berline, and Garrison Keillor.

Adam was a charter member of the “Powdermilk Biscuit Band" on A Prairie Home Companion; he appeared on the show 170 times over nearly 40 years.  More than 20 years after publication, his Granger’s Fiddle Tunes for Guitar remains a classic reference tool for guitar pickers.

Alan played with Jimmy Martin for two years before joining Country Gazette where he played with legends Roland White and Byron Berline. Alan taught music at South Plains College with his colleague Joe Carr for over 20 years. Alan is considered one of the world’s best banjo instructors and continues to teach workshops nationally and internationally.

Alan’s flawless and tasteful banjo technique combined with Adam’s wonderful rhythm guitar and vocals provides a relaxed and seamless show of great music seasoned with a dash of down home humor and wit. Adam’s Go Home and Practice is a wonderful homily to all amateur musicians.  Alan’s tune Molly Bloom is not named after the character in James Joyce’s Ulysses who delivered a two-sentence, multi-thousand word soliloquy that voices the final episode.  Rather, Alan knew a dog named Molly Bloom that lived next door to the site of a regular jam in Norman, OK. The dog’s owner taught English at Oklahoma University. One must wonder if the dog barked nonstop.

Opening for the show is the well-known Portland-area bluegrass band “The Loafers” featuring Dave Elliott, Steve Reischman, Mike Stahlman, Aaron Stocek, and Dee Johnson.  For more than a decade this group has been entertaining audiences at live shows and festivals around Oregon and Washington.
