Absinthe Rose is a politically charged lyrical and personal songwriter that grounds herself in the depths of punk while keeping the roots of folk and blues withpersonal experiences.
Growing up in the punk scenes at the early age bouncing from San Fransisco, Medford, and Las Vegas to Boston. Playing in punk bands until she started Absinthe Rose in 2008 as a means to express her inner strengths and struggles with a traditional folk feel that blends country, folk, blues and punk. The first song Absinthe Rose created was "Justin's Song" That was a tribute to her brother serving time and through letters they both developed a political awareness and resistance to the prison system. When Kimbo Rose played this for the first time live she knew she wanted to explore more songs that held a motivational expression to political action. Kimbo Rose grew up in Medford, Oregon listening to Hank Williams, Woody Guthrie Johnny Cash and Bessie Smith. After relocated to Boston to continue Absinthe Rose. The first thing she did was start a DIY but NEVER alone label “ Screech Owl Records” that allowed her to self-release her own music while maintaining allies in the music community and working along side labels like FISTOLO RECORDS, CURVE OF THE EARTH AND RIOT SKA RECORDS From the UK. Kimbo first release was “Diggin Ditches and Escaping Holes” in 2009, She added local musicians to Absinthe Rose’s sound and released “ “Consistency In Skepticism And Awareness” A split with local band HUMANWINE in 2011. “The More That We Learn, The More We Learn That We Are Wrong” released in 2013. Also releasing Ep’s along the way- “Make It Rain” “ Ancestor’s Rise” The newest record entitled “Black Earth” was released in 2015. These records symbolized the unique sound and lyrical content of a working woman’s folk, blues and punk style cultivating different communities of music influenced by her upbringing. While touring the United States and Canada through these releases. Kimbo Rose has also toured each year as a solo acoustic act under Absinthe Rose. Having a childhood of abuse, poverty and struggle has taught her to express the real side of America. With a troubled past she has fought for social Justice and corruption. Developing a unique sound found under full moons and mason jars full of hope and healing that links her to her roots of punk, country and folk. Kimbo Rose has dedicated her life to promoting Healing through her art and experiences. With hopes to change the world with compassion and artistic expression.
Dogtooth & Nail are two punks playing folky, bluesy political tunes about environmentalism, feminism, anti-capitalism and creating change.
