About This Event
Panel Discussion Topics
This panel will invite reflection on how we respond to grief—both our own and others. We will explore what it means to show up with empathy and presence, and how the discomfort or uncertainty around grief can lead to silence and isolation. Together, we’ll consider ways to stay in connection, even when words- feel inadequate.
Caregiving and Anticipatory Grief… Anticipatory grief is the profound sense of loss, sadness, and uncertainty that can arise before an expected death or major life change. This panel will explore the grief often experienced by caregivers and families facing terminal illness—the mourning of a loved one, of changing abilities, and of a shared future—while still tending to the everyday realities of care. We will reflect on how to recognize and support this often unseen form of grief.
3pm - The Tides That Follow Loss
This panel will explore secondary grief and the layers of grief that emerge after a loss, including the absence of the roles, support, and meaning a loved one brought to one’s life. We will reflect on how grief can arise unexpectedly—like ‘sneaker waves’—unpredictable and often stirred by moments such as birthdays, holidays, and anniversaries. We’ll consider ways to recognize and gently ‘surf’ these waves as they come.
NOTE: Tiny Beautiful Mosaic Art Project participants are invited to drop off their 3x3 canvases for inclusion in the collective artwork piece to be created during this time. Mark Jamnik will be available to help with any questions about creating your personal expression of grief, hope and healing during this time.
